Why I’m Building Raptt

I’m an engineer by background, which means I’m trained to look beyond surface-level symptoms and focus on root causes. When I started paying closer attention to how smartphones were affecting families, I noticed a consistent pattern: most solutions don’t actually address the core problem.

They rely on restriction, willpower, or rigid schedules. But behavior, especially in kids, isn’t primarily driven by intention. It’s driven by environment and reinforced through small, repeated actions over time.

That led me to think differently about the problem.

If habits are built through consistent, incremental behaviors what some would call “atomic habits” then simply blocking phone usage isn’t enough. If you remove the behavior without replacing it, you haven’t changed the habit. You’ve just paused it.

So the real question became:
How do we help shape environments that not only reduce negative behaviors, but also encourage better ones to take their place?

Raptt is being built around that idea. Instead of forcing constant decisions or relying on discipline alone, it introduces context-based boundaries that work passively in the background. These boundaries create space, space for focus, for conversation, for presence.

But this is just one part of the journey.

We’re actively exploring what it looks like to go beyond restriction and support true habit change helping kids gradually replace unhelpful digital behaviors with healthier ones that they carry with them over time.

The goal isn’t more control.
It’s better habits.
And ultimately, stronger connection within families.
